A channel storage system is a type of compact warehouse in which multiple load units (pallets) are positioned one behind the other in individual channels. Feeding and retrieval operations in such a system can only be done at the front, whereas small shuttles carry out the individual tasks within the channels. Direct access to the storage locations is not possible.

In comparison to standard racking with one load unit per compartment, channel storage systems have a greater packing density since less space is required for aisles. They are often used in cold storage, where the refrigerated space should be as small as possible and densely packed with goods. In comparison to live storage racks and roller pallet systems, channel storage has no moving parts inside the racking, except for the shuttle.

SSI SCHAEFER has many years of experience in constructing channel storage systems all over the world. From planning through to implementation, we are able to provide complete solutions including in-house steel construction.

Shuttle solutions in a channel storage system

The Schaefer Orbiter System - a combined storage and transport system - uses a simple principle to ensure a highly efficient provision of goods with a relatively low level of automation and a correspondingly moderate investment. Furthermore, choosing this system creates the optimal prerequisites for future-oriented, flexible and modern intralogistics solutions in your facility.

Shuttle systems from SSI SCHAEFER:
  • Optimisation of the life cycle costs
  • Optimisation of the resources used
  • Handling costs per pallet are much lower than with traditional systems
  • From planning to processing and maintenance: we are a true partner and provide support throughout the entire project
